Founding Affiliates

David J. Devlaeminck is Lecturer at the School of Law, Chongqing University and an affiliate member of the International Water Law Academy. 

He received his undergraduate in philosophy from the University of Guelph (Guelph, Canada). He then went on to receive his Master's in philosophy from McMaster University (Hamilton, Canada) alongside a Graduate Certificate in the Water Without Borders program offered by the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (Hamilton, Canada). It is here where his passion for transboundary water issues began. He went on to pursue his PhD in international law at Xiamen University (Xiamen, China) where he focussed specifically on the law of international watercourses and the role of the legal principle of reciprocity. This work has culminated in his monograph, Reciprocity and China's Transboundary Waters: The Law of International Watercourses (Routledge 2021).
